Today's Trip

They scanned someone's hand today at Mancino's 😎. Anyway, jokes aside, this still happened. I was shown around Mancino's. No, not the pizza place LOL. Mancino's, as in, that building that exists near the Lansing Airport! They had a laser scanner. No, not the type that police use. Instead they were trying to determine some specs on a part. The laser point has variable size from 1" down to a fourth of an inch, in which A LOT of data can be gathered by the computer program being used; 1,000 data points can be derived, to be exact! And I got to see a 3d model of a guys hand "printed"; well, it wasn't actually printed. It was displayed as solid model. The problem with a hand or anything organic is that, the laser will start to penetrate the material, leading to iffy measurements. Anyhow, I didn't really notice that much. Oh wait. They had machines everywhere. The most impressive of them was one that was actually producing a top part to a Jaguar as we were there. It was a CNC that had to be immersed in some fluid. It smelled familiar, although I'm not sure what it could be. Some of the things they produce have extremely tight tolerances. I got to see how accurate, well, to about...a millionths of an inch! I was wondering if they were actually playing around with those facts. However, I actually got to run my hand through one of those engine parts. The one with a tolerance of less than one thousandth, It could've been millionth. That was extreme. I mean, it felt no different than what glass might be like. I just wish I had longer nails. I wish I could actually detect any "defects" myself. Well. Wouldn't that be something? If we could actually have the ability to detect such imperfections using merely our senses? Eh. Let the robots do the jobs for people. Because we're getting lazy in more ways than one.
