The future, and the past. Which one is more desirable?

The world is now in the midst of a change. We are noticing that it is not the same anymore. That is, we are using different means of survival. Ones which rely more on skills and knowledge... we need to be ever more clever when it comes to technology. In other words, we are becoming more technologically advanced. Electronics are just one, single, part of the equation, since there is more to our society than electronics when it comes to technology. So, generally speaking, the term that can be used for what our society is that it is becoming "better", or it is helping us as a civilization. Or is this really true about our civilization as a whole? Well, the answer is not truly straightforward.. It just depends upon many different circumstances. And as such, an ultimate, definitive, answer is virtually nonexistent. Because the world of technology is more or less a conundrum. It is paradoxical. If we were to live in different circumstances, we would then realize that this is the case. Generally Our technologically advanced society gives us as people many, many great benefits. And the reason for why, under certain circumstances, our world of technology takes on a paradoxical nature, is because just the fact that we are using it is, in some aspect of life, making us worse. Or, more specifically, it has the potential of making our lives worse. This would be the case, were we to suddenly decide that we will start living primitive lifestyles. In this instance, all of our technology has essentially become a waste of our time, because it might be quite likely that, we will now not have much access to the technology. And, we used to live back in the old times... and if we were to still remain "behind" in those times, ironically we would then still have readiness for what lies ahead- that is, things that we just do not usually care about thinking in our modern times! And what will happen once we forced to live "off the land"? Now, we may also ponder the possibility of having to be forced to use older, more traditional, technology. And currently, because we are constantly trying to stay up to date, we just do not have all  of the proper knowledge on how to use some of this older technology. This is what we have to currently be considering as technological advancement.
An example of such a scenario as described earlier, would be an event such as an eruption of a supervolcano, or an impact brought on by a celestial object. Now, I have also written previously about what are known by astronomers as "super flares". Those that come about due to solar activity from our own sun. And of course there are those that will probably deny such events could ever come about. They are actually really likely to happen, despite the fact that these "episodes" are most likely part of the distant future. Not so distant, however to ensure civilization will not be in the midst of a catastrophe. And, as you might be aware yourself, we are not sure yet if we can survive extended periods of time without our technologically advanced culture. Well, perhaps when it comes to it those people that are living in isolation, as compared to much of society, which resides in great populations, are much better off when it comes to a catastrophe. And "how 'bout them doomsday peppers?!" Well, whoever we consider as "more civilized", is not necessarily always going to be the phrase synonymous with more prepared.   This is just one reason for why I find it amazing that many people decided to live primitive lifestyles. What kind of lifestyle would I most likely lean towards? That is definitely still up for debate. This is just something that I might never know for sure about. However, this is a topic that none of us might ever know the answer to for sure. And, therefore, life moves on, in a tidal wave of mystery...
